Role summary

The Production Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing manufacturing activities for Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers and other static process equipment such as Pressure
Vessels, Columns, Tanks, and Skid-mounted equipment. The role ensures timely production, adherence to quality standards, cost optimization, and compliance with ASME, TEMA, customer specifications, and project schedules. The company manufa ctures Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers as its core product along with other process equipment for industries such as Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Fertilizers, Power, LNG, and Process Industries.

Key responsibilities

Production Planning & Execution

  • Plan and supervise day-to-day manufacturing activities for Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers and other static equipment.

  • Ensure production targets are achieved in line with project schedules.

  • Coordinate fabrication, machining, fit-up, welding, assembly, hydrotesting, and final dispatch activities.

  • Monitor material availability and coordinate with Planning, Procurement, Stores, and Quality departments to eliminate production delays.

Shop Floor Management

  • Lead and guide supervisors, welders, fitters, machine operators, and technicians.
  • Ensure optimum utilization of manpower, machines, and shop floor resources.
  • Improve productivity by reducing idle time, rework, and process bottlenecks.
  • Monitor fabrication progress and ensure adherence to approved manufacturing procedures.

Welding & Fabrication

  • Supervise fabrication and welding activities as per approved WPS/PQR and fabrication drawings.
  • Coordinate welder qualification and ensure compliance with applicable welding procedures.
  • Ensure proper handling of pressure parts, nozzles, tube bundles, baffles, channel assemblies, and other critical components.

Quality Assurance

  • Conduct stage-wise inspections as per the Quality Assurance Plan (QAP).
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications, ASME, TEMA, and applicable quality standards.
  • Maintain production records, inspection reports, and process documentation.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC for dimensional inspections, NDT, hydrotesting, and final inspection activities.

Process Improvement

  • Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyse production issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency, cycle time, and overall equipment utilization.

Documentation

  • Issue fabrication drawings, work instructions, and production documents to the shop floor.
  • Maintain production reports, process control records, and daily progress updates.
  • Support project documentation and manufacturing traceability requirements.

Safety & IMS

  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), and Integrated Management

System (IMS) requirements.

  • Promote safe work practices across fabrication and welding activities.

  • Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure proper maintenance of production equipment.

Cross Functional Coordination

  • Coordinate with Engineering, Projects, Planning, Procurement, QA/QC, and Stores to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Participate in production review meetings and provide progress updates.
  • Support timely resolution of technical and manufacturing issues.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or Industrial

Engineering.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing of Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers is mandatory.
  • Experience in fabrication of Pressure Vessels, Columns, Tanks, or other ASME static equipment will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in heavy engineering, process equipment, or EPC manufacturing environment is preferred.

Skills & competencies

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger manufacturing processes.
  • Good understanding of pressure vessel fabrication and static equipment manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of ASME Section VIII, TEMA, fabrication drawings, welding procedures, and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with hydrotesting, NDT coordination, dimensional inspection, and manufacturing documentation.
