Join a team focused on turning unstructured data into measurable operational value while building systems that customers can trust.

About the Role

As Carbon Accountant, you will own the company’s carbon data, calculation methodology, and emissions reporting process. You will turn operational and financial information into accurate, traceable Scope 1, Scope 2, and relevant Scope 3 inventories. Through structured data collection, emissions-factor management, reconciliations, and control reviews, you will strengthen reporting quality and support credible sustainability decisions. You will partner with Finance, Facilities, Procurement, People, and Operations to improve source data and embed carbon accountability into routine business processes. Your work will help leadership understand emissions drivers, prioritize reduction opportunities, prepare for stakeholder and regulatory expectations, and build reporting systems that scale with the organization. We welcome applications from qualified women and candidates of all backgrounds who meet the role requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the annual and periodic greenhouse-gas inventory, defining boundaries, source data requirements, calculation logic, and review controls so emissions reporting is complete, consistent, and audit-ready.
  • Build reconciliations between finance, procurement, facilities, travel, and operational records, resolving anomalies and improving the completeness and reliability of activity data.
  • Maintain emissions factors, methodologies, assumptions, and evidence in a controlled repository, enabling transparent calculations and repeatable reporting across reporting cycles.
  • Coordinate Scope 1, Scope 2, and relevant Scope 3 data collection with internal owners and suppliers, improving response rates, documentation quality, and reporting timeliness.
  • Produce management dashboards and disclosures that explain emissions trends, material drivers, data confidence, and reduction opportunities in language decision-makers can act on.
  • Support assurance, customer questionnaires, sustainability frameworks, and regulatory requests by preparing defensible workpapers, evidence packs, and responses aligned to accepted standards.
  • Identify opportunities to automate carbon-data workflows and controls, reducing manual effort while increasing traceability, exception management, and scalability of the reporting process.

Essential Skills & Technologies

  • 2–5 years of experience in carbon accounting, sustainability reporting, ESG data, environmental consulting, audit, controllership, or a closely related analytical role with ownership of quantitative outputs.
  • Working knowledge of GHG Protocol principles, Scope 1 and 2 accounting, relevant Scope 3 categories, emissions factors, organizational boundaries, and market- or location-based calculations.
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets capability, including reconciliations, data validation, pivot analysis, and error checking; familiarity with SQL, BI tools, or workflow automation is valuable.
  • Ability to translate invoices, spend data, utility records, travel data, and operational metrics into documented emissions calculations with clear assumptions and evidence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain uncertainty, data gaps, methodologies, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail and control discipline, including version management, audit trails, review sign-offs, and timely escalation of material data-quality issues.

Additional Plus

  • Experience supporting third-party assurance, CDP responses, BRSR or ESG disclosures, sustainability questionnaires, or customer carbon-data requests.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy instruments, supplier engagement, life-cycle assessment concepts, spend-based estimation, or carbon-reduction planning.
  • Exposure to carbon accounting software, ERP systems, procurement platforms, data warehouses, dashboards, or automation tools used to improve reporting workflows.

What You'll Bring

  • A structured accounting and analytical mindset that treats emissions data as a controlled business dataset requiring clear ownership, reconciliations, evidence, and repeatable processes.
  • Practical judgment when data is incomplete: you can select defensible estimation approaches, document assumptions, quantify uncertainty, and explain the implications without overstating precision.
  • Strong cross-functional operating ability, enabling you to secure inputs from Finance, Facilities, Procurement, Operations, People, and suppliers while maintaining accountability for reporting deadlines.
  • Curiosity about systems and automation, with the motivation to replace fragmented spreadsheets and manual follow-ups with reliable workflows, exception controls, and useful management visibility.
  • A continuous-improvement orientation that connects emissions measurement to business decisions, helping leaders understand the financial, operational, and environmental impact of reduction opportunities.
  • Clear communication and professional integrity, particularly when reviewing sensitive data, challenging inconsistent inputs, preparing assurance evidence, or presenting findings to senior stakeholders.

Why Join Us

This role gives you direct ownership of a foundational sustainability capability rather than limiting you to data collection or disclosure support. You will shape how carbon information is defined, sourced, controlled, analyzed, and used across the business. The company’s document intelligence platform provides an unusually strong environment for improving data workflows, automation, and operational visibility—capabilities that are increasingly important in modern carbon accounting. You will work across Finance, Operations, Procurement, Facilities, and technology teams, gaining broad exposure to the levers that influence organizational emissions. Your analysis will help leadership prioritize practical reduction actions, improve stakeholder trust, and prepare the business for evolving reporting expectations. You will also join a company whose platform has processed more than 50 million documents for over 12,000 companies across 25 countries, giving you the opportunity to contribute to a global, data-intensive operating environment. We are committed to an inclusive workplace where women and people from underrepresented backgrounds can build meaningful careers and have their contributions recognized. For someone who wants to build credible systems and see measurable business impact, this is a role with meaningful scope and visible ownership.

What We Offer

  • Meaningful ownership of the carbon accounting system, with the opportunity to establish scalable controls, improve data quality, and influence how sustainability decisions are made across the organization.
  • Cross-functional exposure to Finance, Operations, Procurement, Facilities, and technology teams, building broad commercial understanding alongside specialist carbon-accounting expertise.
  • A data-rich, automation-oriented environment where your process improvements can reduce manual work, increase reporting confidence, and create measurable operational value.
  • The opportunity to contribute to a global platform serving more than 12,000 companies across 25 countries while developing a durable career in sustainability, accounting, and business analytics.
