About the Role
The Assistant General Manager - Laboratory Operations will own the operating rhythm and performance of diagnostic laboratory services in Gurugram. This leader will connect people, processes, quality systems, technology, and capacity planning to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant testing. The role is accountable for translating business requirements into reliable laboratory execution, strengthening controls across the testing lifecycle, and resolving bottlenecks that affect patient and partner experience. Success means improved turnaround-time adherence, consistent quality outcomes, effective resource utilization, and a laboratory team that operates with clear standards. The role requires a hands-on operator who can lead cross-functional teams, interpret performance data, manage escalations, and build scalable systems without compromising patient safety or regulatory expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end laboratory operating performance through defined service, quality, and productivity metrics, improving turnaround-time adherence and creating a dependable experience for patients and healthcare partners.
- Lead laboratory workforce planning, shift coverage, capability development, and performance management through clear operating standards, ensuring the team can meet demand while maintaining accuracy and service continuity.
- Govern pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical workflows through documented controls, root-cause reviews, and corrective actions, reducing repeat errors and protecting patient safety.
- Partner with quality, technology, logistics, customer service, and business teams to remove operational bottlenecks, strengthen handoffs, and improve the reliability of the complete diagnostic journey.
- Monitor capacity, equipment readiness, consumables, and laboratory infrastructure through structured reviews, preventing avoidable downtime and supporting efficient scaling of testing volumes.
- Own escalation management for operational and quality issues, using timely decisions, transparent communication, and measurable action plans to protect service levels and stakeholder trust.
- Prepare operational reviews for leadership using accurate dashboards and trend analysis, converting laboratory data into investment priorities, process improvements, and business-impact decisions.
Essential Skills & Technologies
- Strong diagnostic laboratory operations expertise across sample workflow, testing processes, turnaround-time management, quality controls, and service delivery, with the judgment to balance speed, accuracy, and patient safety.
- Demonstrated people leadership across laboratory teams, including workforce planning, performance management, coaching, and change adoption, with the ability to create accountability through clear standards and measurable outcomes.
- Working knowledge of laboratory quality systems, accreditation expectations, biosafety, documentation, incident management, and corrective-action practices required to maintain compliant and dependable operations.
- Analytical capability with operational dashboards, productivity metrics, turnaround-time trends, error data, and capacity indicators, enabling fact-based prioritization and early intervention on performance risks.
- Practical understanding of laboratory information systems, workflow technology, equipment utilization, and digital reporting, with the ability to partner effectively with technology teams on process improvements.
- Strong cross-functional communication and escalation management skills, enabling alignment among laboratory, logistics, customer experience, quality, and commercial stakeholders during routine operations and service disruptions.
- Structured problem-solving and continuous-improvement capability using root-cause analysis, process mapping, standardization, and corrective actions to deliver sustained improvements rather than temporary fixes.

- Exposure to laboratory accreditation audits, regulatory inspections, validation activities, or quality-improvement programs that strengthened operational controls and reduced recurring risks.
- Familiarity with healthcare diagnostics business metrics, vendor coordination, budgeting inputs, and network expansion, supporting commercially aware decisions without compromising clinical standards.
What You'll Bring
