About the Company
Absolute is a focused organization working in an innovation-led environment where research quality, scientific rigor, and practical execution matter. The company values people who can turn experimental work into dependable results and support the development of stronger technical capabilities over time. It offers a setting where research professionals can contribute to meaningful work, collaborate across functions, and build depth in strain engineering and metabolic engineering. The team expects accountability, consistency, and attention to detail, with an emphasis on outcomes that improve the quality and impact of the work. This is a place for scientists who want to grow through hands-on responsibility and contribute to a business that values technical problem-solving and measurable progress.
About the Role
This role owns early-stage research execution in strain engineering and metabolic engineering, with a clear focus on improving biological systems through structured experimentation. The Research Associate will support the design, testing, and interpretation of lab work that advances project goals and strengthens technical decision-making. The role is suited to someone who can work carefully with data, follow scientific protocols, and help move ideas from hypothesis to validated results. Success in this position depends on the ability to contribute to a reliable research pipeline, maintain quality in execution, and communicate findings clearly so the team can make faster and better-informed decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute experiments that support strain engineering and metabolic engineering goals, with a focus on generating reliable data that advances project decisions and reduces iteration time.
- Monitor, document, and analyze experimental outcomes accurately, turning raw observations into clear insights that help the team understand what is working and what needs refinement.
- Support development and optimization of biological workflows, improving consistency in lab execution and strengthening the quality of research outputs.
- Maintain strong experimental records, ensuring results, methods, and observations are captured in a way that supports reproducibility, review, and future project continuity.
- Collaborate with internal scientists and cross-functional stakeholders to align research work with broader project priorities and translate technical findings into usable progress.
- Follow lab standards, safety requirements, and scientific protocols so the team can operate with discipline, reduce risk, and maintain dependable research quality.
Essential Skills & Technologies
- Strong grounding in strain engineering and metabolic engineering concepts, with the ability to apply scientific principles to practical experimental work and interpret outcomes with care.
- Hands-on laboratory skills in molecular biology, microbiology, or related techniques, enabling accurate execution of experiments and dependable contribution to research programs.
- Ability to analyze experimental data thoughtfully, identify patterns or anomalies, and support decisions with evidence rather than assumption.
- Familiarity with standard research documentation practices, including protocol tracking, result recording, and maintaining reproducible workflows.
- Good understanding of scientific method, experimental controls, and structured testing approaches that improve confidence in results and reduce avoidable errors.
Additional Plus
- Prior exposure to bioprocessing, microbial optimization, or related applied research areas, which can help the candidate contribute faster in technical discussions and experiments.
- Experience working in a collaborative research environment where precision, responsiveness, and accountability are important to project outcomes.
What You'll Bring
- A disciplined scientific mindset with the ability to own experiment quality, follow protocols consistently, and keep the research process dependable.
- Curiosity and persistence in solving technical problems, especially when results need to be interpreted, refined, or repeated to reach stronger conclusions.
- Clear communication and documentation habits that help the broader team trust the data and act on findings with confidence.
- A practical approach to learning and improving, with the confidence to take feedback, adapt quickly, and contribute steadily to research goals.
