Head of Cardiology Department

Location: New Delhi, Delhi, India | Experience: Executive (20-25 years)

About the Company

The hiring organization is a patient-centered healthcare institution serving a diverse community through coordinated clinical services, dependable operations, and a commitment to high standards of care. Its hospital teams bring together experienced physicians, nurses, technicians, administrators, and support functions to improve outcomes across the patient journey. The organization is strengthening clinical leadership so each specialty operates with clear accountability, consistent governance, and measurable service quality. The cardiology department is an important part of this mission, supporting timely diagnosis, evidence-based treatment, emergency readiness, procedural excellence, and continuity of care. Leaders are expected to build trust across disciplines, develop capable teams, and use clinical data, patient feedback, and operating metrics to guide improvement. The institution values ethical practice, patient safety, collaboration, professional development, and responsible stewardship of resources. This role offers the opportunity to shape a high-impact specialty, strengthen referral and care pathways, and create an environment where clinicians can deliver excellent care while the department grows sustainably.

About the Role

The Head of Cardiology Department will own the clinical direction, operational performance, and long-term development of cardiology services in New Delhi. Through clinical governance, care pathways, quality systems, and multidisciplinary leadership, this role will improve patient outcomes, safety, access, and service reliability. The leader will guide consultants and clinical teams, oversee complex cardiology programs, and ensure practice aligns with current evidence, regulatory expectations, and institutional priorities. Success will be measured through clinical outcomes, patient experience, physician capability, operational efficiency, and sustainable department growth. The role requires visible leadership across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, diagnostic, interventional, and follow-up services, with the judgment to balance urgent care needs and strategic improvement. The successful candidate will also represent cardiology in executive forums, strengthen collaboration with related specialties, and build a culture of accountability, learning, and compassionate care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own cardiology clinical governance through documented standards, peer review, audit, and escalation systems, improving patient safety, treatment consistency, and accountability across all departmental services.
  • Lead multidisciplinary cardiology teams through clear goals, workforce planning, supervision, and performance reviews, building capability while maintaining dependable coverage for patients and critical services.
  • Direct service quality using clinical dashboards, outcome reviews, patient feedback, and root-cause analysis, converting findings into measurable improvements in access, outcomes, experience, and operational reliability.
  • Oversee cardiology pathways across consultation, diagnostics, emergency care, procedures, inpatient treatment, discharge, and follow-up, reducing avoidable delays and improving continuity across the patient journey.
  • Partner with hospital leadership and related specialties to plan capacity, equipment, budgets, and referral networks, enabling sustainable department growth without compromising clinical standards or resource discipline.
  • Promote evidence-based practice, teaching, research, and continuing professional development, strengthening the department’s clinical reputation and ensuring teams remain current with advances in cardiology.
  • Represent the department in executive, regulatory, and multidisciplinary forums, communicating risks, priorities, and performance clearly while securing decisions that improve patient care and institutional outcomes.

Essential Skills & Technologies

  • MD or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Cardiology, with substantial consultant-level experience and recognized expertise across complex diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical decision-making.
  • Demonstrated leadership of a cardiology department or comparable clinical service, including governance, quality improvement, workforce management, budgets, and multidisciplinary stakeholder alignment.
  • Strong command of evidence-based cardiology practice, clinical protocols, patient-safety systems, accreditation requirements, and relevant hospital information, diagnostic, and reporting systems.
  • Ability to interpret clinical and operational data, establish meaningful measures, and use dashboards, audits, and structured reviews to drive accountable improvement.
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, negotiation, and crisis-management skills, with the credibility to influence senior clinicians, executives, patients, families, and external partners.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, informed consent, equitable access, and compassionate patient-centered care across high-acuity and routine clinical settings.

Additional Plus

  • Experience developing interventional, preventive, heart-failure, electrophysiology, cardiac rehabilitation, or other specialized cardiology programs with measurable improvements in access and outcomes.
  • Exposure to clinical research, academic partnerships, teaching hospitals, digital health, telecardiology, or service-line expansion would support broader departmental innovation and growth.
  • Familiarity with healthcare accreditation, payer relationships, referral development, and financial planning would strengthen the department’s operational sustainability and institutional impact.

What You'll Bring

You will bring 20 or more years of cardiology experience, including substantial senior clinical leadership and the maturity to make sound decisions in complex, high-stakes environments. Your postgraduate Doctor of Medicine in Cardiology, or equivalent recognized specialist qualification, will provide the clinical foundation for department-wide accountability. You will combine respected clinical judgment with the ability to lead through systems rather than individual heroics. You will know how to translate evidence into protocols, protocols into reliable team behavior, and performance data into practical improvement. You will be comfortable balancing patient urgency, physician autonomy, workforce realities, regulatory expectations, and financial discipline. You will build trust with consultants, nurses, technicians, administrators, patients, and families through clarity, empathy, and consistent follow-through. You will coach future clinical leaders, address performance issues fairly, and create a culture where safety concerns are surfaced early. You will also bring executive presence: the ability to present a strategic case, secure resources, manage risk, and represent cardiology credibly across the organization and broader medical community.
