About the Company

Urban Company is a technology-driven platform founded in 2014 to make everyday services more convenient, reliable, and high quality. We connect customers with trained professionals across beauty, cleaning, repairs, and other home services, while also building trusted consumer products through our Native brand. Our operations span more than 50 cities across India, with an international presence in the UAE and Singapore. The company’s goal is to improve the quality of urban living by combining strong technology, service standards, and empowered partners. We work to create dependable experiences for customers and sustainable earning opportunities for service professionals. As a Category Manager, you will contribute to a business that operates at the intersection of consumer experience, marketplace operations, partner performance, and category growth. You will help translate customer needs and market signals into focused category strategy, measurable execution, and better outcomes across the service or product portfolio.

About the Role

As Category Manager, you will own the growth, health, and customer experience of an assigned category across Urban Company’s marketplace or Native portfolio. You will connect customer demand, partner or product capability, pricing, availability, quality, and marketing into one category plan. The role requires structured problem solving and strong execution: identify the biggest constraint, align stakeholders, launch the right intervention, and measure business impact. You will work closely with operations, product, marketing, finance, supply, and city teams to improve category performance across markets. Success means stronger customer adoption and repeat usage, healthier partner outcomes, better service or product quality, and a category operating model that scales. This is a hands-on role for someone who can move between market-level detail and portfolio-level strategy while maintaining accountability for measurable results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the category strategy and annual priorities, translating customer, market, and operational insights into initiatives that improve growth, quality, availability, and contribution to business performance.
  • Build category reviews and performance dashboards, using demand, conversion, repeat, pricing, quality, capacity, and partner metrics to identify root causes and prioritize the highest-impact interventions.
  • Improve customer experience by identifying service or product friction, partnering with product and operations teams to remove failure points, and tracking measurable gains in satisfaction, reliability, and retention.
  • Strengthen category supply and partner performance through clear standards, capability programs, incentive mechanisms, and operating routines that improve fulfilment, quality, productivity, and earning opportunities.
  • Partner with marketing, finance, product, and city teams to plan launches, promotions, pricing changes, and assortment decisions while protecting customer value and sustainable category economics.
  • Lead structured experiments from hypothesis through rollout, documenting learning, evaluating impact, and scaling successful interventions across relevant cities, segments, or category lines.
  • Create stakeholder alignment through concise business reviews, decision documents, and execution plans that clarify ownership, timelines, risks, and expected outcomes.

Essential Skills & Technologies

  • Strong category, marketplace, growth, or business operations experience with the ability to own ambiguous problems and convert analysis into measurable commercial or customer outcomes.
  • Advanced analytical capability using spreadsheets and SQL or comparable tools to work with large datasets, define metrics, diagnose performance gaps, and evaluate experiments.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional programs involving operations, product, marketing, finance, supply, and frontline or partner teams across multiple markets.
  • Customer-centric problem solving with practical understanding of service quality, funnel performance, pricing, capacity, retention, and partner or supplier performance levers.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including executive-ready business reviews, structured recommendations, operating playbooks, and stakeholder updates.
  • Strong project management discipline, with experience prioritizing work, managing dependencies, escalating risks, and delivering initiatives from design through scaled execution.

Additional Plus

  • Experience in consumer internet, marketplaces, home services, e-commerce, retail, logistics, or other operationally intensive businesses with distributed supply or frontline partners.
  • Exposure to category P&L, pricing strategy, assortment, promotions, supply planning, or service operations across multiple cities or customer segments.
  • Experience building dashboards, operating mechanisms, or repeatable playbooks that improve execution quality beyond a single team or market.

What You'll Bring

  • You bring structured ownership: the ability to define the category’s most important outcome, establish the right metrics, and maintain momentum until the business result is visible.
  • You bring commercial and customer judgment, balancing growth, affordability, quality, supply health, partner outcomes, and long-term trust rather than optimizing one metric in isolation.
  • You bring analytical depth and operating pragmatism, moving comfortably from data diagnosis to field realities, stakeholder alignment, experiment design, and scaled implementation.
  • You bring a bias for action, making thoughtful decisions with imperfect information while creating feedback loops that improve the next decision.
  • You bring collaborative leadership without relying solely on formal authority, earning commitment from diverse teams and making ownership, trade-offs, and accountability explicit.
  • You bring resilience and curiosity suited to a fast-changing environment where new customer needs, market conditions, and operational constraints require continuous learning.

Why Join Us

Urban Company offers the opportunity to shape categories that directly affect how people experience everyday life in major urban markets. You will work on problems where technology, customer behavior, service quality, partner livelihoods, and operational execution meet. That combination creates unusually visible feedback: decisions can influence customer trust, professional earning opportunities, and the reliability of essential home services at scale. You will have room to own meaningful outcomes rather than operate as a narrow functional specialist. The role also offers exposure to a multi-category platform spanning beauty, cleaning, repairs, and consumer products through Native, with operating experience across India and international markets including the UAE and Singapore. Our culture values customer obsession, partner empowerment, excellence, bias for action, and continuous learning. If you enjoy finding the constraint that matters most, aligning teams around a practical solution, and scaling what works, this role provides a strong platform to build category leadership and durable operating judgment.
