About the Company
testing_1 is a Bengaluru-based organization hiring for a junior software engineering position. Beyond its headquarters location, no additional company information has been provided. This job description therefore focuses on the role, expected contribution, and practical foundations needed for early-career engineering success.
Company Practices & Ways of Working
The role is based in a hybrid workplace. Candidates can expect collaboration with engineering colleagues, structured feedback, and practical exposure to software delivery. Specific development processes, team rituals, technology choices, and benefits will be discussed during the hiring process.
About the Role
As a Junior Software Engineer, you will contribute to building, improving, and maintaining software under the guidance of experienced engineers. You will own well-scoped development tasks, translate requirements into reliable code, and help strengthen product quality through testing and documentation. Success means delivering maintainable changes, learning quickly, collaborating effectively, and building confidence across the development lifecycle. This role is designed for an early-career engineer with sound programming fundamentals, curiosity, and a disciplined approach to problem solving. You will work in a hybrid environment and gain practical experience with code reviews, debugging, version control, and iterative delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement well-scoped software features through the team’s development workflow, translating clear requirements into readable, maintainable code that supports reliable product delivery.
- Investigate bugs and production issues using logs, debugging tools, and systematic analysis, helping reduce repeat defects and improve application stability.
- Write and maintain unit and integration tests for assigned changes, increasing confidence in releases and protecting important user and business workflows.
- Participate in code reviews by explaining implementation choices and incorporating feedback, strengthening code quality and shared engineering standards.
- Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teammates through planning and delivery discussions, ensuring technical work remains aligned with customer and business outcomes.
- Maintain concise technical documentation for implemented components, setup steps, and known limitations, improving team continuity and reducing future delivery friction.
Essential Skills & Technologies
- Strong foundation in at least one programming language such as Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, C++, or C#, with the ability to write clear, structured code.
- Understanding of core computer science concepts including data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, databases, and basic software design principles.
- Familiarity with Git, debugging, testing concepts, and software development workflows, with willingness to learn the team’s tools and engineering practices quickly.
- Ability to read existing code, isolate problems, and communicate technical questions clearly, enabling efficient collaboration and faster resolution of development challenges.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical software development foundation.
Additional Plus
- Exposure to web development, APIs, cloud platforms, mobile applications, or distributed systems through academic, personal, internship, or open-source projects.
- Familiarity with SQL, relational databases, Linux, containers, or automated build and deployment concepts, supporting broader understanding of modern software delivery.
- Contributions to personal projects, hackathons, coursework, internships, or open-source repositories that demonstrate initiative and the ability to learn beyond formal assignments.
What You'll Bring
You will bring curiosity, ownership, and a practical willingness to learn. You can break ambiguous problems into smaller steps, ask thoughtful questions, and follow through on commitments. You care about writing code that other engineers can understand and maintain, rather than simply making a task work once. You are comfortable receiving feedback through code reviews and using it to improve your technical judgment. You communicate progress and blockers early, collaborate respectfully across functions, and approach debugging with patience and evidence. Academic projects, internships, personal applications, or open-source contributions can demonstrate your ability to apply fundamentals in real situations. You do not need to know every tool on day one; you do need strong foundations, consistent execution, and the motivation to grow into greater responsibility. In a hybrid environment, you can organize your work, participate actively in team discussions, and remain accountable for the quality and timeliness of your contributions.
